During Passover, we traditionally avoid chametz: wheat, barley, oats, spelt, and rye-based foods and drinks, except in the form of matzah. On the second night of Passover, we begin to count up to the Festival of Shavuot by counting the Omer. An Omer was an ancient Jewish measurement, particularly relevant in the late winter and early spring season during the barley harvest. Passover recalls our Exodus from Egypt. Shavuot recalls our receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai.

Counting the Omer from one up to 49 each night for seven complete weeks takes us through our annual journey from Passover to Shavuot, from crossing the split sea out of Egypt to the base of Mount Sinai, from Redemption to Revelation.

This year on the 22nd night of Counting the Omer, we will join together to study the tradition of the Counting of the Omer, learn about the modern uses of these five "chametz" grains in the beer making process with a tour of the brewery, and celebrate sisterhood and the end of Passover by sharing a l'chaim and blessing the 22nd day of the Omer.
