Picturing History: A Jewish Journey Through The Church

Wednesday, January 14, 2026

In the Virginia Highlands area.

Advanced registration is required.

RSVP by January 9.

Join us as we look at the art that enriched the doors, walls, and windows of early and later Christian churches and even, surprisingly, some synagogues. We will look together at many examples, using the tools of art history, to examine the history of the Church and its relationship to Judaism, observing its portrayal of the Hebrew Bible in Church art and the lessons it hoped to convey. There will be some visual surprises in store as well as contemporary efforts by the Church to repair the visual narrative.

Speaker: Barbara Ellison Rosenblit
Former Dean of Faculty Mentoring at The Weber School

Barbara has taught a broad range of subjects, including women's history, Tanakh, literature, Classics, and history of the ancient world.
