In 1910, Sara Glikman knows she is a gifted matchmaker, but on New York's Lower East Side, her vocation is dominated by men who see her talent as a threat. She is forced to fight for her rightful place and the recognition she deserves. Two generations later, Sara’s granddaughter, Abby, is a successful Manhattan divorce attorney. When Sara dies, Abby inherits her collection of handwritten journals, which record the details of her grandmother's matches. But the faded volumes contain more questions than answers, forcing Abby to reconsider her own once-compelling career. She must soon decide if she is willing to sacrifice the life she worked so hard for to keep her grandmother’s mysterious promise to a stranger.
